Anya Bershad, MD, PhD, is a psychiatrist and Assistant Professor-In-Residence in the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. She directs the Social Psychopharmacology Laboratory, which investigates pharmacologic treatments for social dysfunction in psychiatric illness. She studies compounds such as ± 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), opioids, and amphetamines, using multimodal behavioral and neuroimaging techniques. Her research has been supported by the NARSAD Young Investigator Award and the NIH Director's Early Independence Award. She also supervises Psychiatry residents in the UCLA Psychosis Clinic and leads the Medical Humanities and Social Sciences track for medical students in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.
